Join Richmond Urban Forestry Division and Richmond Parks & Rec to kick off Richmond Tree Week and celebrate Richmond's 32nd year as a Tree City USA.
What?
In recognition of the City's 32nd year, the city will be receiving a Tree City USA designation from partners at the Virginia Department of Forestry. Then, community members are invited to help plant the city’s 2024 Arbor Day tree in recognition of this day, as well as learn about all the other events happening throughout the city during Richmond Tree Week. Be sure to take home your own baby tree from the RTW Tree Giveaway Station (while supplies last).
OR
At the same time, a Tree Care Workday will be happening. Did you know that first three years after planting is considered the most critical time in a tree's development? Volunteer are needed to help with various tree care activities, including hand-weeding the tree beds, mulching, and litter pick up. The trees receiving care were planted in 2021 in partnership with Southside ReLeaf and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
When?
Friday, October 11 from 1:30 - 3 pm.
Where?
Swansboro Playground at 3058 Stockton Street.
What should I bring?
If you plan to volunteer, you may want to bring along sunscreen or a head covering, as well as a refillable water bottle (and snack if needed). Tools and gloves will be provided, but feel free to bring along your own gloves if preferred. Be sure to wear closed toed shoes/boots, and clothing that you don't mind getting wet, dirty or snagged.
