So you've planted a tree—now what? Join Arborists with the City of Richmond's Urban Forestry Division for a hands-on workshop on how to prune and care for young trees as part of Richmond Tree Week!
What?
This workshop is suitable for homeowners looking to gain practical knowledge on how to monitor and maintain their trees, or for any Richmond Tree Stewards or community partners who are seeking to improve their tree care skills.
When?
Friday, October 11 from 12 pm - 3 pm. Attendees can expect practical and personal instructions on how to properly prune these young trees in the first 1.5 hours, followed by a short break for the RTW Kick Off Celebration, and ending with more tree care tasks and additional time to complete any unfinished pruning.
Where?
The workshop will be held at Swansboro Playground, where trees were planted in 2021 in partnership with Southside ReLeaf, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and Parks & Rec. All of this work will help to prepare these young trees for the Fall and Winter months. The first 3 years after planting is considered the most critical time in ensuring healthy root and structural development, so help create a future full of happy trees!
What should I bring?
Tools and gloves will be provided, but feel free to bring along your own if preferred. Be sure to wear sturdy closed toed shoes/boots, long pants and long sleeves. No prior experience or special skills necessary. Attendees may want to bring along sunscreen or a head covering, as well as a refillable water bottle (and snack if needed).
Do I need to sign up?
Yes! Please sign-up using the button below. This is a free event, but registration is required.
