Join the Swansboro West Civic Association, the Richmond Tree Stewards, and Richmond Parks & Rec and for a neighborhood tree planting in Swansboro West as part of Richmond Tree Week!
What?
Volunteers are needed to plant new trees in the Swansboro West neighborhood. Duties will include digging holes, scooping and amending soil, placing and planting 13 trees, applying mulch, and watering. We will be planting 15-gallon/1.5" caliper sized trees, which are larger in size, but will create an immediate impact to the area.
When?
Monday, October 14 from 10 am - 1 pm. There will be a demonstration on how to properly plant trees at the beginning of the event, so please arrive on time!
Where?
Trees will be planted in the Swansboro West neighborhood, zip code 23227. Meet on McRand St. between East 32nd and East 33rd St.
What should I bring?
Tools and gloves will be provided, but feel free to bring along your own if preferred. Be sure to wear sturdy closed toed shoes/boots, long pants and long sleeves. No prior experience or special skills necessary, though some lifting (max. 60lbs), kneeling, bending, overhead reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling and stooping will be required. Volunteers may want to bring along sunscreen or a head covering, as well as a refillable water bottle (and snack if needed).
